My Love of.... Sid The Curious Kitty

My love Of.... Sid The Curious Kitty

My first post on things I love. Keep an eye out for more.

My story about Sid my curious kitty is very simple. I hated cats. Never went near one, never patted one - nothing.

My parents hated cats - My dad always threatened me never to bring one home or he would do things to it that no cat should have to go through. Something involving a hummer... We had been strictly a dog family - protective, loyal. Dogs were it.

But I was out of home, in our first house. It was a tiny unit with no . We were both working and I was studying and working and I go sick - I had a whole lot of problems and I was stuck at home with no company. I was starting to go crazy.

Matt suggested to me that we look at getting a cat. I thought he was crazy. A cat - what do they do - nothing. I would have to clean it's poo. There would be hair everywhere. Nah not a cat for me.

After a lot of debate, I was inclined to go for a trip to a place that felt like ages away from our house. Longest car drive. We entered this pool shop (you read right - pool shop) and they had a cage of kittens. There were all asleep bar one. The rant. All his brothers and sisters where brown and black with strips but he was black and white. I was trying to be strong but the seller told us that his mother wasn't interested in him and that his nickname is Monster. I was sold.

It has taken me ages to work out cats. He acts more like a dog because I didn't know how to treat a cat. He comes when he is called. He snuggles. Sleeps on Matt's feet (because he know he can't on mine).

He was just what I needed. Something to take my mind away from my problems. He was there for a cuddle and a snuggle.

Today again that I am home and stuck in a neck brace he is here looking after me. Always at my side, ready for a cuddle. I now have cat everything in my house. Matt has been calling me Kitty for years but now I am becoming the cat lady. I still have a deep down love for dogs and find me a dog person. I don't like many other cats, maybe just cat pictures but most other cats are mean. I go to mush around a dog and have to pat and play.

One day I will tell him I control the red laser dot... but that won't be any time soon..

Other Meema

My Other Meema Blanket - Story Behind It

Many people come into your life. I was lucky - I met a special lady who became invested in me. She didn't have to - We are not related by blood - But she was interested in me, and in turn I loved her. She could be explained as my Great Grandmother - She might not be legally but she was.

She was around since I was born - She was the older lady that I didn't have in my family. Growing up my Grandmother who I call "Meema" was a lot young than most Grandparents, So she was the one that fit the more Older lady position in my life. Because of this I named her "Other Meema" - I had a Meema - Now I have an "Other Meema" too.

My first memory of her is sitting in my Meema's house with a hook in her hand crocheting. She always had a bag of wool, ready to go for every trip. My other memory of Other Meema was going for long trip to Nanango and having magic eyes ( I would fall asleep and we would be there). I would talk to her birds, play in her garden and make mud pies, climb her back fence and feed the geese who would chase me. After that a walk into town for a look around or a drink in one of the many pubs ( For a small town there was always a lot of pubs to pick from)

For my 7th Birthday Other Meema made me a bright Pink Blanket to match my bedroom at the time and I was in love. It was amazing too me. After that I watched her make blanket after blanket for everyone in the family. The most impressive one was the one she made my dad - It was the biggest one she ever attempted as he is very tall and she wanted to make sure his feet were covers. It is huge.

She was a very strong lady - She went through so much in the last few years - Every time something happens to me, I always try to be as strong as her.

Sadly she left us a few years ago - and there is no more blankets to be made.

Lucky enough before she left us, I sat down and she tried to teach me - I just couldn't do it. When I was little she taught me how to finger knit - a would just make long ropes and that was it. Unfortunately I didn't learn enough.

A few months ago I was thinking about my blanket - I was sick and Matt brought it out for me. It is my go to blanket for everything. Especially when I am sick and it got me thinking - My sister Jessie was too young, she missed out on all those fun times with Other Meema, and secondly she didn't have an Other Meema blanket. This made me sad. I'm sure I could of found her one that was made. But that wasn't the point - She missed the love that was put into it or the thought and time - a thing made especially for you.

That's when I set to work. I had a very basic ideas, I knew I would be able to have a sort of try. But what a fail I made - I made all my granny squares too tight. I made them to crooked. It just wasn't working. I gave up.

After getting sick again and being snuggled in my blanket I started to look at in more in the detail of it. I knew I had to try just a little harder.

Hours and Hour on youtube watching tutorials, buying books and every size hook you could get. I started to understand what I was doing wrong. It started to make sense. I decided no squares - I will have no idea how to put them together so I just started going around and around.

This is going to be a special blanket for my sister. Everybody needs a special blanket. My blanket is so special to me because she was so special to me and I know my sister is going to feel the same way.

Here is to putting in more hours to complete this blanket for her.

This is what is looks like so far.

My First Post - Welcome

My first post so please be patient with me - This blog is a long time coming. I got it to the stage that it is now but felt very nervous about writing things. Firstly I didn't think anyone would read it. I follow so lovely blogs and I am inspired everyday by the amazing work some people do. So, this is me, trying to not care and have a go.

I have some time up my sleeve at the moment - A couple of Mondays ago I dislocated my neck - I will write up a post about this later - Lets just say it is not fun - and there is too much waiting involved. I have a wedding come up in September - I am marrying my childhood sweetheart and I am very excited (Hopefully my neck doesn't disrupt the plans - we have a honeymoon booked and waiting)!

My craft projects I have on the go -

A granny square - is slowly growing

A green scarf - again on the go..

Completing my wedding invitations (They are on hold due to neck problems)

Making my shoes for my wedding - Attempt 4 is ready and waiting.

More work to my garden

A have a desire to make rainbow cupcakes.

I have a special friend having a baby in December and I have a few projects I want to do for him.

So I want to fill you in - Show some of my work - Some things I have completed and ideas and thoughts I have.

My other hobby is photography (I worked as a baby photographer for a year) and I am smitten with Instgram - if you are interest in following look me up on @cooperskitty or not on Instgram you can check out my pictures here -

A new pass time I have now is starting Penpals from around the world - Collecting post cards and letters. The post cards are to use for teacher the children at work about the world but the letter is because I love to receive mail - I hate just getting bills - I guess that is why I buy a lot from internet. I have found some serious people interested - But there can be a lot of creeps so if you are into sending letters, postcards and anything by mail let me know!
